Here are the picks of tonight's TV...
Moon Landing Live, Channel 4, 6.55pm
The final stages of the Apollo 11 mission, following in real time the recordings of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin negotiating the final descent to the lunar surface, while Michael Collins remains in lunar orbit, uncertain if they will be successful or if he will be left to return to Earth alone. The programme features footage from the two astronauts’ cameras, including the positioning of the American flag, as well as their call to President Nixon. It also follows the perilous return journey to Earth.
All-Star Netball for Sport Relief BBC2, 7pm
In the unlikely event you’ve yearned to see Jennifer Saunders and Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse involved in a netball game, then you’re in luck. The duo captain the teams in this charity match in aid of Sport Relief. Like Strictly, there will be a spot of fancy footwork here, not that all of the folks taking part will know what the footwork rule is, but that only adds to the fun. The ubiquitous Clare Balding presents the action as players including sports stars Denise Lewis, Katherine Grainger, Jade Jones and Katherine Merry, and actresses Sarah Hadland (Miranda) and Bridget Jones veteran Sally Phillips.
London’s Great Bridges: Lighting the Thames Channel 4, 7pm
Final preparations are made ahead of the 69,000 lights finally being switched on, and electricians and abseilers are working flat out to finish on time. However, the installation on Millennium Bridge is proving difficult. The American artist behind the project finally arrives in London and begins the process of making his vision a reality. Charlie Luxton explores Tower Bridge and looks at the history of art inspired by the Thames, joining artist Stephen Wiltshire to paint a view famously captured by Monet.
Killing Eve BBC1, 9.20pm
There are only two episodes of series two to go before fans are counting the days until series three. But if you haven’t already binged this box set on iPlayer, the good news is you’re in for some excellent twists and turns. Villanelle dives deep into the dangerous world of her target under the guise of her newfound persona, Billie. Eve may have competition for the assassin’s affections.
The World’s Most Shocking Ads with Shane Ritchie Channel 5, 9.55pm
Shows about funny commercials have provided cheap and cheerful TV for decades, whether it’s ITV’s ...On Television strand or BBC’s Commercial Breakdown. Now it’s Shane Richie’s turn to showcase some of the most memorable adverts from around the world, including Japan, Brazil, France, Belgium, Norway and the US. Episode one features skydiving cats, killer bathroom soap, pensioners behaving badly and unicorns on the toilet.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
