The National:

UNITED States President Donald Trump has insisted he is not racist after receiving backlash over a series of tweets yesterday.

The Republican told four congresswomen –  who are all US citizens –  to "go back" where they came from.

A series of political figures, including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, condemned the comments – but Trump wasn't done yet.

He continued his tirade today, tweeting: "The Democrat Congresswomen have been spewing some of the most vile, hateful, and disgusting things ever said by a politician in the House or Senate, & yet they get a free pass and a big embrace from the Democrat Party. Horrible anti-Israel, anti-USA, pro-terrorist & public.....

".....shouting of the F...word, among many other terrible things, and the petrified Dems run for the hills. Why isn’t the House voting to rebuke the filthy and hate laced things they have said? Because they are the Radical Left, and the Democrats are afraid to take them on. Sad!"

He followed the new tweets up with a defence of his comments, explaining "Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don't have a Racist bone in my body!"

That's a well-developed understanding of how racism works right there. Only those with suitably racist bones can stand accused of the Big Bad Racism. Just saying racist things doesn't qualify, duh.

It's not like Trump has suggested all Mexicans are "drug dealers, criminals, rapists", or failed to condemn literal neo-Nazi marches through the streets of the US, or tried to ban people from "Muslim countries" entering the nation, or called for the execution of the Central Park Five ... because all of those things on top of yesterday's comments would certainly indicate that he may, in fact, have some racist bones.
