THE National exclusively reported on the plan by musician Donald Black to hold a concert for independence and we promised to let you know how he got on.
The Yes DIY hub is delighted to report that the concert at the Oran Mor in Glasgow was a big success.
A Scottish harmonica player, who is reckoned to be the foremost expert on the instrument, organised fellow traditional musicians for the gig, and with all the money counted he has, as promised, donated the income to the SNP.
Black told us: “We managed to raise £1131 after outlays taken off from the Concert For Scottish Independence which you very kindly did a story on in the National. This was handed over to the SNP.”
We should also make it clear that the Minted in Dumfries exhibition put together by Dumfries and Galloway Pensioners for Independence was not just a one-off and is now on show at Lochthorn Library in the town during normal opening hours – see library website for details.
The photographic exhibition of Scottish coins comes from Dumfries Museum’s collection and private collections. To complement these, there are images from a frieze of Scottish kings and queens, by the Scottish artist William Burn Murdoch, a contemporary of EA Hornel, while the frieze images are courtesy of Carolyn Traill.
Included in the display is an exhibit about a silver penny from the reign of King Alexander III who died in1286. The penny was minted in Dumfries.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
