What’s the story behind your brand?

In 2005 my little family left the rat race of London life and returned home to Scotland. Our son was just five and we were looking forward to a new life away from the hustle bustle of city life. Before long we found a lot of enjoyment just playing with our son and lots of crafting at the kitchen table!

We tried out all sorts of crafts, clay, decoupage, lots of painting and leaf pictures. My son was obsessed with making anything and everything! Our table was always covered in glues, glitter and all sorts!

Fast forward a few years and I discovered resin. I had always enjoyed pressing flowers as a child so it seemed a natural process to add some dried flowers to resin.

Lana Butters is the jeweller behind Wishes on the Wind

Being home in Scotland was most definently inspiring. Country walks, collecting and pressing flowers and then ... Wishes on the Wind was born! We opened our Etsy shop and website.

What do you make?

I make resin flower jewellery, nature encapsulated into crystal clear resin. I also work with bridal flowers, making many custom pieces using flowers from bridal bouquets.

The National:

Real flower necklace, £31-£33

How do you make them?

Some pieces can take a few days to make, layering the resin over time – there is no way to rush things. It is a laborious process, but an activity I get so much pleasure from beginning to end.

The National:

Moss earrings, £27

What sets you apart from other makers?

We are proud to be using an eco-friendly resin to create our jewelry. This is pine oil-based, unlike most other commonly used petroleum-based resins, therefore great for the environment. I think it is very important in this day to produce these pieces being conscious of the environment in the materials process used. This is so important to us and in return our customers can relax in the knowledge that not only are they wearing a new lovely piece of jewellery but it is made with care and consideration for our planet.

The National:

Forget me not necklace, £29

What are your most popular products?

Dandelion designs are always a favourite with myself and customers. To be honest I am kind of obsessed with the dandelion, the beauty of this flower many find such a pest!

Another favourite is forget-me-nots, such dainty pretty blue flowers with beautiful conotations.
