Extreme Tribe: The Last Pygmies, C4, 9pm
THE Mbendjele pygmy tribe is almost entirely cut off from the outside world, but in this new series presenter Livia Simoka, who produced the Channel 4 series The Tribe, is getting a chance to learn more about this extraordinary society. She travels into the remote Congolese jungle to live among the Mbendjele, spending five months sleeping on the floor of her adoptive family’s mud hut. She learns more about their traditions, which include female tooth-sharpening.

Ghosts of the Deep: Ancient Shipwrecks, More4, 9pm
THIS two-part documentary follows a team of international scientists on a quest to settle the enduring scientific puzzle of how the Black Sea changed from a freshwater lake to a sea at the end of the last Ice Age. Was it a catastrophic flood that could have inspired the biblical story of Noah’s Ark or a slow inundation that happened over generations? The team surveys and cores the seabed, detecting more than 40 unusual sonar signatures, while remotely operated vehicles guide them to stunningly preserved wrecks from the Ottoman period.

The Honest Supermarket: What’s Really in Our Food?, BBC2, 9.30pm
FOR every pound spent on food shopping, 77p goes to the supermarkets, giving them a huge influence over what people eat. In an experiment to discover the hidden truths about everyday foods, Horizon has built a supermarket where the products are labelled with the real story of how they are produced and their effect on consumers and the environment. Mathematician Hannah Fry and dietitian Priya Tew invite members of the British public to come in and discover the truth about their favourite foods.

THE detective’s mission to save his lover Flora from the gallows for a crime she didn’t commit runs into problems when he is caught up in an armed siege. A dozen match girls are being held in a factory at gunpoint and the man who has taken them hostage will only talk to Rabbit. Strauss has fallen in love and is convinced he has finally found the one, but Mabel’s information may change that.
