YOU’VE got to hand it to Theresa May, she has a tremendous sense of comedic timing.

Her talents were on display this week during her speech in Stirling.

Firstly, she doubled down on her decision to reject the Scottish Government’s proposal for a second independence referendum, despite a majority of Scots now being in favour of indyref2.

She also took a swipe at the Scottish Government for withholding legislative consent for the EU withdrawal bill – even though it was the Scottish Government that voted to do so.

She then moved on to praise Northern Ireland’s booming film industry. She did so in the same week it was announced Scotland would be missing out on lucrative filming for the new The Lord of the Rings TV series, with “the tumultuous Brexit situation” reported to have harmed Scotland’s pitch.

Finally, the Prime Minister insisted the Union can only “prosper if it enjoys the support of its people” – in the same week it was revealed her de facto deputy had refused to release the findings of a poll which his department commissioned about attitudes to independence and the Union.

Helpfully, Sarah Mackie has created a short video to pick out the highlights from May’s speech.
