TWO bush fires have broken out on the Greek island of Evia, which have forced four villages to evacuate, authorities have said.
The new wildfires (top) have come several hours after a major blaze led to the mobilisation of more than 100 firefighters and a village evacuation. Firefighters managed to limit the spread of the initial fire, however difficult terrain and high temperatures in the region hampered efforts to extinguish it.
A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting the first fire by using a naked flame to get rid of dried weeds near his house. He will appear before a prosecutor in court next week authorities say.
MEANWHILE, a South Koren actress (right) has been charged in Thailand with catching a species of endangered giant clams, whilst she was participating in a Koren survival reality TV show.
Actress Lee Yeol-eum had cheered when she caught the three shellfish at a Thai national park back in March, as part of a challenge in survival TV show The Law of the Jungle.
Authorities say the actress has been charged with hunting the protected clams and could face up to four years in prison and a fine of 40,00 baht (£1,040). The show sends South Korean celebrities to remote locations around the world to test their survival skills.
National park chief Narong Kongeiad said: “The one who must be responsible is the actress who caught the shellfish because she directly violated the law. Others who were involved with the incident could also bee charged.”
The shows broadcaster have apologised for the incident after calls for the show to be cancelled.
ELSWHERE ASAP Rocky has been ordered by a court in Sweden to spend two weeks in a pre-trial detention, while police investigate a fight which happened in Stockholm.
Prosecutors said after a hearing that ASAP Rocky (left), the stage name of Rakim Mayers, was to be held on a lesser assault charge.
The rapper was involved in a fight on Sunday before appearing at a music festival in Sweden. Videos appeared on social media showing a person being violently thrown to the ground by ASAP Rocky before he and others punched and kicked the person
AND FINALLY, in Sudan ruling military council and the country’s pro-democracy movement have now reached a power-sharing agreement, which also includes a timetable for transition towards civilian rule.
The emerging deal could brake weeks of political impasse since the military ousted autocratic president Omar al-Bashir in April. The Sudanese Professional’s Association, which spearheaded protests calling for civilian rule, said: “Today, our revolution has won and our victory shines.”
