THERE are so many myths about Scottish independence that it is difficult to know where to begin.

The Yes campaign team has made a start by debunking the top 10 Better Together myths.

They include classics like Scotland having more influence in the UK, a Labour Government saving the day and we can only stay in the EU if we stay part of the Union.

Here's the countdown:

10. "Higher food prices if Scotland becomes independent." The UK is now making plans for food shortages after a no-deal Brexit.

9. "Together we can make the UK fairer." But the UN has branded the UK welfare system "harsh and uncaring".

8. "Scotland will reject federalism if we reject independence." Gordon Brown said: "It's like home rule within the United Kingdom. We're moving quite close in my view to something near to federalism." This hasn't happened and probably isn't going to.

7. "Vote No to protect your pension." Now the UK has the lowest state pension in the developed world.

6. "Scotland would have more influence within the UK." But the morning after the independence referendum David Cameron changed his tune, saying: "We've heard the voices of Scotland, now the millions of voices of England must be heard."

5. "We don't need independence because a Labour Government will save us."

This one is so ridiculous it barely needs an explanation, just today the party has come under fire for delaying a decision on its position on a People's Vote and whether to back a Remain vote.

Deliberating over your stance on the biggest political issue of the day this late in the game probably isn't the best tactic.

This was clear in analysis by Remain groups Best for Britain and Hope Not Hate found that found Labour and the Conservatives will be wiped out in Scotland at a general election if they do not back a public vote on any Brexit deal.

4. "The UK protects jobs in Scotland." HMRC Cumbernauld marked for closure, shipyard contracts – offered overseas, Scottish fishing – sold out by the Tories, no-deal Brexit – 100,000 Scottish jobs on the line.

3. "The UK protects Scotland's NHS." But now the NHS is "on the table" in the UK's trade deal with Donald Trump.

2. "The UK provides strength, stability and international clout." Thanks to Brexit the UK has become an international laughing stock

1. "Only as part of the UK can you guarantee Scotland's membership of the EU." In fact we now know that only as part of the UK can you guarantee Scotland will be dragged out of the EU against our will.
