WE were a little bit worried when we went to press that we had made the competition too hard – but readers of The National didn’t let us down.
Hundreds of you wrote in to enter our competition on Saturday to find the Wally hidden somewhere in the edition. Boris Johnson has been ducking the media and refusing to answer questions – but many of you were able to spot him hiding just behind the front row of an All Under One Banner march in the image on page 25.
We selected three readers at random and we’ll be sending them out our special Wee Ginger Dug cuddly toys. So congratulations to Andrew Lansdowne, Fiona Jack and Jan Souter – one of our team will be in touch.
Andrew told us that the election of BoJo as the next prime minister would surely deliver independence.
He told us: “Boris Johnson is dangerous especially the way he seems to fool/win over so many people with his blustering buffoon chicanery. He cares nothing for Scotland or it’s people.
“He also puts reducing tax for the already rich before his so-called Brexit holy grail. He was a Remainer once.
“Boris stands for Boris and that’s it. Whilst it will be difficult at first I also see the flip side which must be that this decision to elect him as prime minister by such a small percentage of the population must surely deliver independence (surely Ruthie, Hunt et al should be demanding more than 50% of the vote for the next PM ... or does that only apply here?).”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
