A NON-PARTISAN fact-checking service has found that Jo Swinson’s claims on university education equality are “mostly false”.

During a recent episode of the BBC’s Question Time, the LibDem leadership hopeful spoke about the attainment gap between different areas in Scotland.

The East Dunbartonshire MP said on last month’s Epsom episode of the show that 80% of pupils in her constituency go on to university, compared to 4% in Glasgow Govan.

Her comments led to criticism from the Scottish Government.

Yesterday, the Ferret fact-checking service said the figure she used for Govan is “out of date and is not a complete measure” and that the percentage she used for her own constituency was “incorrect”. The Govan percentage is thought to be closer to 13%, while just 64% of school leavers in East Dunbartonshire have gone on to any form of higher education.
