Scottish Greens MSP and land reformer Andy Wightman has reached the halfway target in his latest crowdfunding appeal to help pay for the costs of defending a defamation case against him.

Wightman is being sued for £750,000 by Wildcat Haven Enterprises over two blog posts that he wrote in 2015 and 2016. Due to legal reasons, we cannot publish what he wrote of the firm’s response.

With just five days left to the deadline for the appeal, Wightman has raised almost £60,000 of his £120,000. He has promised to repay contributions should he win the case and be awarded costs.

Wightman recently tweeted: “Unless I can find the funds to defend myself I will be declared bankrupt owing £750,000 for something I deny I ever did.”

No MSP can become a bankrupt and retain their seat.
