The National:

DONALD Trump was in town this week (in case you hadn’t heard) so it’s apt that Question Time have invited on his number one fan.

Piers Morgan, who once again interviewed the president this week, will join the panel of BBC’s flagship political panel show.

After a furious SNP response to suggestions that the NHS could be up for grabs in a UK-US post-Brexit trade deal, panellist Drew Hendry, an SNP MP, will doubtless have some choice words for Morgan.

The programme will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland at 10.35pm.

Fiona Bruce will host the show, which this week is held in Thetford, Norfolk.

Appearing on the panel will be:

  • Nicky Morgan, Tory MP for Loughborough, who is backing Michael Gove in the Conservative Party leadership contest.
  • Annelise Dodds, Remain-supporting Labour Treasury minister and Oxford East MP.
  • Drew Hendry, SNP business spokesperson and MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey since 2015.
  • Alison Phillips, Daily Mirror editor and columnist. Formerly worked for the Sunday People and New Day.
  • Piers Morgan, Good Morning Britain host and former Britain’s Got talent judge

Trump’s visit to the UK and comments about the NHS are bound to be a hot topic of discussion.

The Tories are also in the midst of selecting their next leader from an infinite field of forgettable candidates, the majority of which are seemingly unified in their commitment to a hard Brexit and denying Scotland its right to an independence referendum.

But with a Scottish MP on the panel, the interests of the Scottish people may get a rare moment in the spotlight down south.
