A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched to carry out vital works on a Scottish ferry that is the last of its kind in the world.

The MV Glenachulish is the world’s last seagoing, manually operated, turntable ferry. Built in 1969, she has worked the short route between Glenelg on the mainland and Skye for almost 40 years, latterly owned by a community interest company.

More than £200,000 has previously been raised to keep the historic ferry running but vital engine work is now needed. The Glenachulish Preservation Trust has started a JustGiving campaign in a bid to raise £10,000.

Jo Crawford of the Isle of Skye Ferry Community Interest Company, said: “She is a much-loved boat and a living piece of Scotland’s maritime heritage.

We are optimistic about raising the money to keep her going.”
