The next stage of All Under One Banner’s national tour of marches and rallies takes place tomorrow in Galashiels.

It’s the first time that an All Under One Banner (AUOB) march has visited the Scottish Borders, and Galashiels, at the very heart of the Borders, is the town that has been chosen for what will surely be another celebration of the Yes movement’s commitment to independence.

Below are AUOB's guidelines to all participants.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please gather at the designated start point at Scott Park and allow time to spare. You will be organised by stewards into formation for the march that will leave at 1.30pm sharp.

The March will be led by one Single Flag Carrier (AUOB FLAG) and Saor Alba Pipe Band. No marchers or stewards in front of the musicians.

Next in line will be less able marchers and wheelchair users who will form in rows of four across. This formation should be followed by all. Please, note this section is for people that it has been designated for. It will be managed by four stewards assigned to this task.

The AUOB banner will be placed immediately behind the wheelchair users with a steward on each side. All stewards will form on each side of the marchers and spread themselves from the front to the back of the march. All marchers will line up in fours behind the banner. Please try and comply with this, so we can try and get an accurate number of participants. No marchers will be allowed to be in front of the banner to ensure health and safety and to protect wheelchairs from being pushed and overrun.

Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring water, sunscreen and waterproofs as required.

Stewards and police are there to ensure that everyone has a good time and stays safe so please obey any instructions given by them. Remember these people are volunteers and are there to make sure the event is a success..

VERY IMPORTANT: Any counter demonstrations will be handled by specialised stewards – marchers can either ignore the counter-demonstrators or smile and wave. No standing beside them or mixing in with them – our movement doesn’t need any negative publicity. The Unionists have now started to plant infiltrators hoping for a "Kodak moment" to portray us in a bad light. They carry body cameras.

As you are leaving Scott Park we will have a team of volunteers doing a bucket collection, including Yes Groups now involved with our new initiative. To not only help generate funds for AUOB but also individual Yes groups help them get further established. They will be carrying AUOB buckets with Logos, wearing Purple Hi-Viz vests with Logos and ID badges. Each bucket will have a unique tamper proof reference number lock that will be assigned to an individual collector. There will be no other authorised collectors – if you see anyone collecting without the AUOB identity badges and tamper-proof security tags on buckets displaying the AUOB logo please report this to the nearest steward immediately. After the march and rally, the buckets will be opened in front of independent bodies including Yes groups that took part, recorded by them and AUOB. They will ensure the tamper-proof locks are still in place and the unique reference number is the same. When all donations have been counted the total will be announced on the AUOB page.

We are asking, if you are able, to please donate £1 pound or any amount you can give. We are hoping to raise enough to do a massive billboard campaign. All the monies raised will go to furthering the cause of independence.

Our hundreds-strong AUOB steward team which has built up five years' successful experience to date managing the independence marches will be at full force on Saturday to ensure a smooth passage of the procession through the town centre and at the assembly location and rally site of Scott Park. However we need as many additional volunteer stewards to join the big team on the day and to this effect the AUOB steward team will be actively recruiting as many volunteers as we can for this important role.

The requirements for being a volunteer steward are very simple and joining the team will in no way hamper your enjoyment of the big day with donning a Hi-Viz vest and following simple instructions all that will be asked of you. You do not need any experience whatsoever (even though naturally any previous experience either voluntary or in a professional context is obviously good) as full guidance will be given on the day via steward briefings running every 30 minutes from 12pm, 12.30pm, 1pm, as we approach the 1.30pm prompt start time for the march.

One of the main tasks that you will undertake as a volunteer steward is to ensure that the participants on the procession are keeping within the side of the road the procession is to travel and the AUOB steward team will do this by spreading out along the length of the procession and walking on the roadside edge highlighting to participants to keep within the boundary line.

Should an emergency situation arise of any sort, and if you are the first volunteer steward present at the place and time then full guidance will be given at the steward briefings/meetings as to what procedure to follow- with immediately alerting the Head Steward and Head First Aid team, as well as Police Scotland officers, being the effective course of action to undertake. That being said on the balance of probabilities there will not be any such situation however as stated you will be fully prepared and know what to do if any emergency arises.

The National:

It is imperative that volunteer stewards do not congregate towards the front of the march but spread out along the flanks of the procession all the way to the very back, and to this end the Head Steward team will appoint and dispatch a group of stewards with the task of being the rearguard, only leaving Scott Park and walking the route at the very tail end of the procession. Furthermore, once we arrive at Scott Park we will need a group of volunteer stewards to take up various positions behind and around the stage area (as directed by the AUOB Stage manager) to ensure the privacy of the back-stage area for the political speakers, bands and other music acts who will be performing at the Rally along with the operational security of the PA set-up.

Please note that at the Rally, unless prior authorisation has been given you will not be allowed behind the stage or on stage. Directly in front of the stage is the area reserved for Media Coverage.

Please be aware at Scott Park Two Residential Care Homes are in close proximity. You must not park any cars that may restrict access to residents or emergency vehicles. Any cars parked on private property or causing any obstruction will be towed. This is directly from the Scottish Borders Council.

To all stallholders – we recommend you arrive at 10am. You must drop off your equipment and park the car at a parking spot. Scott Park is restricted in size so only a few vehicles authorised by Scottish Borders Council will be permitted, and they must have prior authorised approval.

The unionists would like to see this march fail so, please do not give them any ammunition. The AUOB team is made up of just a handful of people who have dedicated hundreds of hours behind the scenes. We need your help to make sure this march is run safely and the great reputation of the independence movement is preserved and promoted worldwide.

Please help make all of this possible with any donation you can give as we have six more marches this year.

Come along and enjoy the day, bring your flags, pipes and drums. Bring your family and friends, encourage others to join us.

Thank you all for marching.

Director of operations Mandeep Singh and the AUOB Executive Organisational Team.
