THERESA May has announced she will step down as Prime Minister next month but what does this mean for Scottish independence?
The Yes movement had the answers, with many concerned over the prospect of Boris Johnson becoming Prime Minister.
The Tory leader candidates must appeal to their parliamentary colleagues and then to a membership numbering little more than 120,000.
Unless May, by some miracle, gets her Brexit deal through parliament before she resigns on June 7, her successor will face the following options: Brexit via the deal May proposed, a no-deal Brexit, or abandoning leaving the EU entirely which could possibly lead to a People's Vote or a General Election.
These are the best responses from independence supporters.

SNP MSP for Moray Richard Lochead said indyref2 "is about to get a lot more popular".
The PM has resigned. Scotland now faces being governed by an extreme right winger that we didn’t vote for. Leading a Tory Government we didn’t vote for. That will impose a hard Brexit we didn’t vote for. Scottish independence is about to get a lot more popular.

Siri, show me something which will break two Tory Prime Ministers, break up the Tory Party, lead to Irish unification and Scottish independence, show up UK political and policy deficiencies and just how dependent UK is on EU, and will discourage any other departures from EU.

#BorisJohnson is the single biggest gift to Scottish Independence, he once said "a pound is better spent in Croydon than Strathclyde". Even Roof Davidson hates him. #Indyref2 #SNP #ToriesOut

May made the point of emphasising she was leader of the Conservative and Unionist party. A clear warning that a Boris Johnson premiership would be an enormous, tartan-wrapped gift for the cause of Scottish independence. He will end the Union forever. 🏴

The PM is going. Another Tory leader destroyed by Brexit. If BoJo is elected, the UK is fucked, he’s an imbecile. Scottish independence looms. SNP must be honest now. It’ll take massive effort and years to get it right. EU membership isn’t a foregone conclusion in that scenario.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
