SCOTTISH Dance Theatre debuted its new show The Circle at the Dundee Rep Theatre last night.
The show, which is choreographed by award-winning France-based choreographer Emanuel Gat, marked the first time UK audiences have seen his work since 2011.
The Circle tells the story of 12 individuals and concentrates on the dancers’ relationships with each other on stage, creating a visually stunning and emotive performance.
It will have further performances in Edinburgh later this month before moving on to two venues in England.
Speaking before the show, Gat said: “It’s been a pleasure to make work for such a talented hard-working company. The Circle celebrates each dancer as an individual and their own unique dance language whilst also telling the story of this collective and the relationships contained within it
“I’m excited for audiences to see these dancers in a new light and for the work to breathe as it feeds from their energy.”
The Circle was part of a double-bill performance at the theatre which paired the piece with Berlin-based Scottish choreographer Colette Sadler’s RITUALIA, a reimagining of Bronislava Nijinska’s Les Noces.
A Glasgow native, Sadler’s choreography has received international success and praise for challenging the concepts of traditional dance performances.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
