GLASGOW’s budding engineers are to be recognised today at the City Chambers as part of an awards celebration.

Primary Engineer, a not-for-profit organisation that is driving the curriculum for engineering across all stages (from primary to further education) and seeks to develop vital science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills and interests from a young age, is hosting the awards, which will see vehicle designs tested and evaluated by professional engineers.

Local vehicle manufacturer and repairer Allied Vehicles Group is a key supporter and the major funder of both the Primary and Secondary Engineer initiatives.

The celebration event will involve teachers bringing along teams of children, with their vehicles which will be tested by engineers acting as judges.

The Primary Engineer programme in schools has involved 114 primary and 9 secondary schools from across Glasgow and has trained 255 teachers over the past 5 years.

Allied Vehicles Chairman Gerry Facenna said: “We want to encourage enthusiasm and creativity around engineering from an early age.”
