FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon, along with other senior pro-indy figures, has welcomed yesterday’s Times poll which put the party – and the prospect of Scottish independence – ahead across the board.
“Today’s @YouGov poll in
@thetimes is amazing,” Sturgeon tweeted.
“23 point lead for @theSNP in Westminster election, 24 point lead for @ScotParl and 25 point lead for Euro elections. And #Indy at 49%. Happy #SNP19.”
SNP depute leader Keith Brown called it “a stunning poll to kick off the SNP’s conference, showing an independence vote too close to call and that the momentum is with the SNP.”
Brown went on to say that Tories were “running scared of giving Scotland a say,” and that they, along with Labour, would “continue their slide into oblivion.”
Brexit Secretary Mike Russell simply posted: “Great start for #SNP19…”
SNP MP Joanna Cherry said the “exciting @YouGov poll in @thetimesscot shows Scottish voters swinging towards #independence, adding that it “Fits with [her] experience on the ground campaigning for the @SNP”.
Elsewhere, Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer focused on the positive outlook for Green prospects, and posted: “Eleven Green MSPs, increased pro-independence majority and 49% support for indy itself in Yougov poll out today. #GreenWave”.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
