MOST of Scotland is set to sizzle again today as the country enjoys its hottest Easter weekend in years.

Yesterday, hundreds of people from St Andrews and beyond basked in the sunshine as Fife’s longest-running Pride event to celebrate love, diversity and identity, was held.

Organised by Saints LGBT+, the day started with a parade from the St Andrews Students’ Association through the town, culminating in a festival of food and music at the students’ union.

Unseasonal temperatures were recorded in most parts of Scotland over the course of Friday and yesterday, with Lossiemouth recording the top temperature of 23C.

It is expected to be dry and sunny today in much of Scotland although the north-west could see some cloud and rain.

Further south, temperatures could reach 22C or 23C again although it will be breezier and feel cooler in coastal areas.

The dry weather is forecast to continue tomorrow and Tuesday with sunny spells, but cloud and rain is expected to move in on Wednesday.

Temperatures have so far been high enough for “taps aff” all over the country with the Twitter hashtag reporting bare chests trending in Stirling, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.

Topless paddle boarders were spotted on the Clyde in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, supermarkets have enjoyed booming barbecue meat and sun cream sales.

Asda, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s reported soaring sales of burgers, sausages, ice cream and ice lollies, with Sainsbury’s saying they expected a jump of 40% in rose wine sales compared with last week and a rise of 800% in sun cream.

Temperatures south of the Border are expected to keep rising, potentially reaching 26C today and 27C tomorrow.

The UK’s hottest-ever Easter temperature was recorded in 1949 – when it reached 29.4C in London.

However, as many enjoyed the weather peacefully, police officers were also maintaining a presence at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow, where temperatures climbed to a peak of 21.9C.

There was a large-scale disturbance on Friday afternoon after hundreds of people crowded into the park to make the most of the sunshine.

Around 30 males were believed to have been involved and a number of arrests were made.

In a separate incident, a teenage boy was left “permanently scarred” after being attacked in the park.

The 16-year-old was with a girl, also 16, near the entrance to Kelvin Way at 8pm on Friday when they were approached by a large group of teenagers. One of the group started attacking the pair and the boy sustained several injuries to his face.

He was treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A teenager in the group who was riding a black BMX bike is described as being aged about 15, 5ft 5in and of slim build with shaved blonde hair. He was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Officers are also looking to identify the other members of the group.

Detective Constable Stephen Palmer said: “This attack has left a teenager with a serious injury which will leave him permanently scarred. Violence will not be tolerated in our communities and it is vital that we find the person responsible for this.

“At this time we do not know exactly why this altercation took place and we are appealing for anyone who knows anything about it to get in touch with police.

He added: “There is a playpark near to where this incident took place which people would have been using at the time.

“Somebody must have seen something.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Four other teenagers were arrested in a separate incident following a mass disturbance at the park hours before.

Police were called to a green space in the park at around 4.30pm after reports of an incident involving a “large number” of people. Two boys, both aged 16, were treated in hospital for cuts and concussion. Yesterday, Police Scotland confirmed four teenagers aged 14-17 were arrested and charged with public order offences. The 17-year-old boy was also charged with assault.

One social media user took to Twitter to complain about the scenes in the park.

“Police horses, police helicopter, kids p*****g and spewing everywhere, music blaring, rubbish strewn about. Shambles,” he posted.

Police had urged people via social media to enjoy the park “responsibly”, saying that weather was forecast to be “nice” over the weekend and that extra patrols would be in place.
