THE National Wallace Monument is re-opening its doors on Friday following a major refurbishment.

Exhibition galleries at the hilltop tribute were given a makeover as part of efforts to commemorate its 150th anniversary.

Work to transform each of the three floors within the Stirlingshire landmark began in February.

New artworks have been added to the collections, with a “dramatic” animated film also created for the visitor attraction. Wallace – A Hero in The Making tells the story of the 13th century patriot and martyr, William Wallace.

External conservation continues, with ticket prices reduced temporarily.

Zillah Jamieson, chair of Stirling District Tourism, which runs the towering attraction, said: “In the Monument’s 150th anniversary year, we wanted to tell the story of William Wallace better than it has ever been told. The upgraded exhibition spaces will resonate with modern audiences from all over the world through dynamic storytelling and digital enhancements. We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors to these exciting new exhibition spaces, and we are honoured to play our part in preserving the legacy of William Wallace.”
