BESTSELLING author Mhairi McFarlane will launch her novel at a special live event hosted by a new book club.

The Falkirk-born writer will talk about her fifth novel Don’t You Forget About Me with Rachel Wood, founder of Rare Birds Book Club.

Wood set up the book subscription service to champion books by women authors she has personally read, enjoyed and wants to share with friends. The event will be a chance for subscribers and others interested to discuss the book in person with McFarlane, Wood and other readers.

Wood said: “We’re celebrating great fiction and stories by women and about women and we’re doing it in a way that’s positive and inclusive.

“In a world where the books women love to read are often sneered at or female authors are taken less seriously than their male contemporaries, I think that’s important.

“Our book club really is about having a bit of fun. We’re all about just enjoying reading for the sake of reading and doing it in your own way.”

April 25, Custom Lane, Edinburgh, 6.30pm, £6.88.
