A NEWLYWED bride was mistaken for a ghost by tourists when she climbed a massive rock formation in the mist in her wedding gown.

Emma Anderson’s dress did not survive the trek up the iconic Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye but she said she didn’t mind.

Anderson, 29, and Craig MacVicar, 38, were persuaded to make the hike for photographs after they exchanged vows in an outdoor humanist ceremony at Honeycomb Rock, Elgol, watched only by a lone piper and photographer Andrew Rae.

Anderson said: “It was so misty and muddy throughout the day but it was so surreal. We are both quite outdoorsy so weren’t scared to hike up there.

“We walked past a few people and they were so surprised at the state of my wedding dress.

“A French couple thought I was a ghost because it was so misty and I had a white dress on. Other people congratulated us.”

The couple, who have been together two years, originally planned to have the ceremony aboard a boat on Loch Coruisk but were told the night before that the weather would be too wild.

Vet Anderson, from Aberdeen, traipsed through muddy bogs in her hiking boots to pose for the dramatic pictures.

She said: “The train of the dress became rain-sodden, and covered in mud.

“I had to wear hiking boots under my dress the whole day. My dress soaked up a lot of mud by the end of it. The dress did not survive. I had to put it in the bin, it was beyond repair.”

The couple chose to get married on Skye because MacVicar’s family are from the island. Anderson said: “We just wanted it to be a personal day with just the two of us.”

Anderson added: “It’s a beautiful place with perfect landscapes. Craig loved it. I would do it again.

“Our families are laid back so we are having a reception in December for them.”
