A £4 MILLION refrigeration unit, designed to make Mackie’s of Scotland the greenest ice cream producer in the UK, is being installed at its Aberdeenshire plant.

New low carbon units will run on ammonia – which poses no threat to the environment – creating Scotland’s first large scale plant combining biomass heat and absorption chilling.

Finance director Gerry Stephens said: “Our ultimate aim is to one day use 100% renewable energy.”
