The National:

THE Tories aren't known for their consistency but their latest smear against the SNP is just bizarre.

In Remain-voting Scotland, Tories are saying voting against Theresa May's Brexit deal means they support a no-deal Brexit but in Leave-voting Labour constituencies in England they are saying Labour voted to "stop Brexit".

The issue was raised by Scottish MP John Lamont who said "well done" to the SNP for supposedly causing the likely no-deal on the new scheduled departure date of April 12.

Scottish Brexit Secretary Michael Russell responded: "John, in the matter of the broken #Brexit and the broken British Constitution #SNPbad is a desperate, not even vaguely credible, excuse . Because you and your party broke them it would be the grown up, honest thing to own them."

David Mundell also claimed the SNP was wanted the “most disorderly and chaotic Brexit that they can achieve” but actually what the SNP wants is no Brexit.

The Tories blaming the SNP for Brexit is just odd. David Cameron, a Tory, called the referendum.

Voting against May's deal does not mean the SNP backs a no deal. In fact Joanna Cherry’s motion to revoke Article 50 (in order to avoid no deal) failed to gain a majority in the Commons on Wednesday evening, with 293 MPs voting down the proposal.

And 111 Labour MPs supported Cherry's motion, busting the myth that Labour voted to stop Brexit as revoking Article 50 doesn't mean the UK stays in the EU.

Labour also did not back May's deal in Commons earlier today, instead choosing to keep its position on a post-Brexit customs union with the EU.

The SNP is one of the few parties to consistently stand up to the Tories' disastrous Brexit so this accusation is baffling.
