LABOUR Party bosses have told their MPs to abstain on the vote for Joanna Cherry's motion to revoke Article 50 when it comes to tonight's indicative votes.

The SNP MP's proposal would only kick in if the country is around a day away from crashing out of Europe without a deal, and only if there is no alternative and no chance of getting an extension.

The Labour recommendation to abstain comes despite a number of the party's MPs being co-signatories on Cherry's motion.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Cherry said her motion would prevent a hard Brexit and said MPs could support her motion and support the Prime Minister's deal, or Norway plus, or Corbyn's deal, or a People's Vote because her motion is a "failsafe".

"If there's one thing we can achieve this afternoon, we can categorically rule out no deal," she told MPs.

She added: "The decision we are taking is of generational importance for the United Kingdom, the decision between revoke and no deal.

"And it ought to be the representatives of the United Kingdom in this House that decide between revoke and no deal, not the Prime Minister of a minority government."

Cherry said her motion to revoke Article 50 had support from all parties in the Commons, though the DUP then intervened to point out that they didn't like it.

The SNP politician said she sometimes forgot that the DUP weren't part of the Government. "I'm very happy to say I can live without the support of the DUP," she added.
