Making our homes and ourselves feel secure is all anyone is looking for in this day and age.  Having a video doorbell installed can give you peace of mind when you’re home alone and don’t feel comfortable answering the door to strangers or when you’re on the go and are worried about those ‘checking’ to see if anyone is home.

A video doorbell allows you to communicate with your visitor which comes in handy even outwith the security aspect. You might want to let the delivery driver know where to leave your parcel or let a friend know that you’re running late.

When it comes to video doorbells, there are lots on the market to choose from to suit all budgets and requirements. We’ve compiled the following list to help you make your decision.

1. XM - JPIDG1 Smart Home WiFi Visual Intercom Camera Doorbell

Coming in as one of the most affordable picks on our list, this video doorbell couldn’t be easier to set up. This wireless, battery operated device will appeal to those who currently don’t have an existing doorbell and therefore no existing wires. If you have WiFi, you are good to go.

The night vision was a highlight for us, that and the motion sensor which detects any suspicious movement.

Other highlights include the low power consumption, which is 300 days standby time and the built in 8GB memory card.

2. Byron WiFi Wired Video Doorbell

For those who are a little challenged when it comes to DIY, like me, the feedback on the Byron video doorbell is that some degree of ability is required to set up.  However, out with installation, and I should mention that not everyone has had the same issues, the reviews have been that it is a fantastic piece of kit.

This unit is equipped with infra-red night vision and can record up to 3 meters for added peace of mind when your family is tucked in for the night.

Another noteworthy feature on the Byron is that unlike others on the market, there is no monthly subscription involved.

3. Alfawise WD613 Smart Video Doorbell

It’s hard to imagine that this sleek attractive unit comes in at under £90, especially since it includes features found in more expensive models such as motion detection and infrared night vision.

If you happen to live in in a busy street however, the Alfawise WD613 may not be for you as the motion detector is said to be a little sensitive.  The simple installation involved with this particular video doorbell could be a selling point, especially if, as previously mentioned, not quite DIY person of the year.

The waterproof rating on the unit is IP65, which is ideal for living in Scotland!

Coming in at the higher end of the price scale, this Ring bundle includes the chime pro allowing you to link your ring devices and get alerts anywhere in your home. The innovative design on this unit is jam packed with features that makes it easy to monitor your home wherever you are. 5. Nest Hello Video Doorbell

The Nest Hello video doorbell is our most expensive on the list, however, according to our reviews, it’s certainly worth the price tag.

Designed to replace your existing doorbell, the Nest Hello has been designed to give you a full-length image of who exactly is at the door, right down the ground.  The unit can also tell the difference between a person and an object, even someone you know and a stranger and alert you accordingly.

As with most of the doorbells on the list, a certain degree of DIY know how is required for installation.

6. Netvue WiFi Video Doorbell

Another great unit at under the £90 mark. The shape of the outdoor unit on this particular model is square, making it a little different to others on the market. It’s worth keeping in mind that it isn’t waterproof, so it might suit a property that has a porch or some other form of protection from the elements.

As Alexa has managed to edge her way into most of our homes these days, it might be of interest to know that one of the many fantastic features is that it is Alexa compatible.
