MICHAEL Gove and Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and Chuka Umunna, Theresa May and common sense – politics constantly throws up unexpected clashes.
Add to that list: Kay Burley and Scotland – a spat which has erupted on social media.
WATCH: Blackford destroys Better Together nonsense of Sky News presenters
The Sky News presenter tried and failed to embarrass Ian Blackford – on live television this week, accusing the SNP Westminster leader of ‘mansplaining’.
The problem was, having been asked to set out his position on a Scottish currency, Blackford’s attempt to correct an interjection from Burley wasn’t really mansplaining at all.

Understandably tired of seeing arguments in favour of independence dismissed by mainstream news outlets, Burley was subject to criticism from some Scottish onlookers.
That point, it seems, was not forgotten by the presenter, who relished the opportunity to fire back after Scotland’s national men’s football team were defeated 3-0 by Kazakhstan on Thursday.
The next day she tweeted: “Anyone know the Scotland score from last night?”
Anyone know the Scotland score from last night?

Judging by the hilarious responses, she may be regretting that decision.
Here are a few of the best …
It was yesterday afternoon, our time, and Scotland got beat 3-0. Disappointing but we’re used to it with us being shafted by WM. But hey ho, one day the worm will turn. But that won’t be ‘news’ you’ll report on. Have a nice day now x

When you find out Kay, let me know. PS it is easily Googled, just like whether or not a country is ‘forced’ to adopt the euro when it joins the EU. Maybe you can give your euro “experts” the website details when you find out. You really are in need of the research experience. 😂

Oh dear kay, we got skelped last night by the better team. That's football. If you're not sure what skelped means, it's the same outcome as you had with @IanBlackfordMP

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
