The National:

LET’S face it, people are fed up with Brexit.

No-one wants to hear another meaningless Theresa May statement outside Downing Street; no-one cares which man in a suit becomes the 23rd Brexit Secretary; and no-one can be bothered trying to make sense of Jeremy Corbyn’s apparent strategy any more.

That does not mean, however, that people have stopped paying attention.

A handy reminder came courtesy of a new poll which reported that 90% of people believe the way the UK is dealing with Brexit is a national humiliation.

The Sky News survey found 34% of people think the Government is to blame for the current Brexit malaise, 26% think MPs are to blame, 7% think the EU is to blame and 24% think they are all equally to blame.

The news comes after a separate poll found only one in 10 voters believe a delay to Brexit should be used for fresh efforts to get the Prime Minister's deal through the Commons.

The research by YouGov found the majority of the electorate – 52% – support an extension to Article 50 but that just 10% back the extra time being used to revive Theresa May's Withdrawal Agreement.

The findings, based on a survey of 2000 people on Tuesday, found one in three (35%) believe the UK should leave on March 29, while 56% backed a second referendum.

The results paint a bleak picture for the Tory government on a day when Theresa May wrote to EU Council president, Donald Tusk, to request an extension to Article 50 until June 30.

Tusk has said a short extension will be possible but is “conditional on a positive vote on the Withdrawal Agreement in the House of Commons".

France, Spain and Belgium, however, are ready to veto a Brexit delay after Theresa May requested an Article 50 extension.

If Theresa May’s plan all along was to bore everyone into submission, she’s evidently given it her best shot.

Ultimately, though, it’s obvious that the hopeless Prime Minister can’t make anything work.
