INDEPENDENCE activists braved sleet and snow on Saturday to hand out free copies of The National to potential new readers.

Hardy volunteers in North Ayrshire shared 2000 newspapers, with 250 given to the Yes Largs team, 250 supplied to Ayrshire Independence Movement (AIM) for Ardrossan and Saltcoats, 250 handed to Ardrossan SNP and a whopping 1250 sent to AIM for Yes Garnock Valley and West Kilbridge, to be circulated there and around Beith, Dalry and Kilbirnie.

The delivery squad in Beith set out in sleet to deliver the papers yet still managed to smile.

“It certainly blew the cobwebs away on such an atrocious day,” said Margaret Johnson, convenor of Garnock Valley SNP branch.

In Edinburgh, Women for Independence members with stout boots and brollies took the papers up and down Leith Walk as well as to Stockbridge, Tollcross, Prestonfield, Muirhouse and other parts of the city, reporting later that the copies had been “well-received”.

Papers were also delivered in Cathcart when MSP James Dornan and Glasgow City Councillors Anna Richardson and Margaret Morgan joined volunteers including Gavin Williamson and Phil Greene to distribute The National – and got very wet in the process.

The National would like to thank all those who withstood the elements to spread the good news. Bravehearts every one!
