The National:

THE BBC has, for the second time today, failed to broadcast Scotland’s voice during a key Brexit vote.

Earlier today, during the debate ahead of the ballot of the EU Withdrawal Act, the BBC broadcast Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn’s speeches in full before cutting back to the studio.

During the subsequent interviews the SNP’s leader at Westminster Ian Blackford started his speech nothing from his speech was shown to BBC News viewers.

Since then, and in an act reminiscent of their coverage during the last meaningful vote on Theresa May’s Brexit deal, once MPs had voted – again inflicting a humiliating defeat on the PM – the BBC broadcast May and Corbyn’s speeches before cutting back to Andrew Neil just as Blackford started to speak.

A BBC Spokesperson said: “Mr Blackford’s speech was broadcast in full on BBC Parliament and a broad range of voices appeared on our coverage across various platforms throughout the day - including Stephen Gethins on the BBC News Channel - in what was a fast paced breaking news story”.

The SNP are Westminster's third biggest party. They are Scotland's biggest party. That makes Ian Blackford's contribution a crucial one.

For the BBC to continously cut away from that voice only illustrates another way Scotland has been silenced in the Brexit debate.

It is not acceptable.
