THE SNP have submitted an amendment to Theresa May's Brexit bill seeking a vote on the statement that Scotland's best future lies in it becoming a "full, equal, sovereign, independent Member State of the European Union".

As the the third largest party at Westminster, the SNP can submit amendments, though Commons Speaker John Bercow will need to select it for a vote to take place.

If selected, SNP chief whip Patrick Grady tweeted that "for the first time ever, a majority of MPs from Scotland will vote in favour of independence for our country".

However, the amendment will be opposed by the Unionist parties at Westminster.

The proposed morion states that both the Scottish and Welsh parliaments are united in their opposition to the UK Government's proposed deal, and agree that a no-deal would be an unacceptable result.

It further states that 62% of Scoland voted to remain in the EU, and it should not be "forced to leave the EU against its will".

Finally, it concludes that Scotland has been “ignored throughout the Brexit process”, and “the best future for Scotland lies in becoming, like so many of its neighbours, a full, equal, sovereign independent member state of the European Union”.
