JULIA Pannell (Letters, March 8) looks for a way to bring forward the cause of independence. One simple occasion presents itself on March 30 – wear a white flower. Leave a white flower in a prominent place near you with this simple message and these lines from Hugh MacDiarmid:

“The rose of all the world is not for me.
I want for my part
Only the little white rose of Scotland
That smells sharp and sweet – and breaks the heart."

In the EU referendum, every part of Scotland voted to remain part of the EU with 62% in favour. Despite this the people of Scotland are being dragged out of the EU on March 29. This date that will last in infamy. We are borrowing the symbolism of the Jacobites when they plucked the white rose of Scotland to wear on their bonnets. This flower symbolises the death of Scottish democracy and our determination to restore it.”

Take a picture. Send it to your local press. Send a copy to The National. Check out This White Flower page on facebook.

March 30 marks the greatest affront to our democracy and our sovereignty. If we let this slip by without notice then what are we prepared to do?
