The National:

MOST of us know that on social media you can’t trust everything you see, especially when it comes to so-called inspirational quotes.

Scroll down a newsfeed for a few seconds and almost inevitably you will see the image of a somewhat dubious quote overlaid on the face of a famous figure.

Time and time again, the comments of historic figures have been manipulated, misinterpreted or just plain imagined.

The lesson in all of this? Be vigilant.

Vigilance, however, was not required to figure out who had come up with the latest ridiculous plea for Scots to ignore an ever-strengthening case for independence.

"Once you've hit the iceberg, you're all on it together,” they told the BBC.

The SNP evidently weren’t sure if the Tory’s message resonated with Scottish voters, other than perhaps to confirm suspicions that the UK Cabinet is made up of blundering buffoons.

So they kindly gave it a revamp.

Finally, an inspirational quote we can take at face value.
