THE SNP's amendment to prevent a no-deal Brexit has been defeated by 36 votes.

A total of 288 MPs backed Ian Blackford's amendment and 324 voted against in tonight's Commons Brexit vote.

The joint SNP and Plaid Cymru amendment calls for the UK not to leave the EU without a deal "under any circumstances".

It also rules this should be done whenever the time of leaving is.

Jeremy Corbyn’s Amendment A earlier failed by 83 votes with 240 MPs voting for the amendment, while 323 voted against it.

The amendment would seek to force support for the party’s five Brexit demands. These, it says, would create a Brexit deal the party was able to back.
