The National:

IF well-worn observational bits about being Scottish in London, a poor-man's Gogglebox, or a sitcom that's clearly run its race wasn't enough to set the pulse racing on last night's launch of the new BBC Scotland channel, just wait until you see what they're kicking off with today.

The channel has boasted that its news coverage, mainly its flagship show, The Nine, will give viewers in Scotland the in-depth coverage they crave, breaking stories while also delivering UK and international news with a Scottish angle.

It seems that this early form will continue into today's listings. The show that has just kicked off BBC Scotland for today is a politics show, Politics Live, which features ... you guessed it ... zero Scottish representation.

We don't for one second believe this is deliberate, but surely someone at the BBC – Scotland or otherwise – could have noticed this and ensured that Scotland is at least given some acknowledgment on the first programme on the first full day of the new BBC Scotland channel.

Are we expecting too much?
