The National:

RECENTLY, when a Unionist MP's words from the past come back to haunt them, it's Brexit exposing their hypocrisy on their opposition to indyref2.

Danielle Rowley demonstrated today that it's just gotten a whole lot harder for them, with the "Independent Group" of breakaway Labour and Tory MPs exposing how little there is between certain members of the Westminster parties.

While the group was initially made up entirely of Labour MPs, they were joined by three from the Tory benches, including Anna Soubry.

Rowley responded to a graphic outlining some of Soubry's views, including being pro-bedroom tax and against investigating the Iraq war.

She tweeted: "The ‘independent group’ just came into the chamber. How people who once called themselves Labour can cosy up next to the likes of Soubry, smiling and laughing, is absolutely beyond me. I guess we now know how their policies and values differ from Labour."

It didn't take Twitter long to see the hilarious irony in that statement – and for images of the Better Together camp to pop up into our heads.

Scottish minister Mike Russell even had one such example handy: "You mean like this …or like the Tory/Labour ruling administration in #Aberdeen?"

There were some other on-point replies too.
