I READ with interest of Roxanne Sorooshian’s sadness on the demise of the Glasgow Women’s 10k (Why the women’s 10k was miles better for so many, February 17) and just want to re-assure her that there is life after this event.

This year, on the very day the Women’s 10k was to take place – Sunday June 9 – an event with similar ideals will take place in Kilmarnock. The Roon the Toon 10k Road Race, Stroller Roll and Wheelchair Race was initiated four years ago to provide motivation for the folk of the West of Scotland to get involved in sport and also to attract some new visitors to the town following a swathe of negative reporting – remember The Scheme?

The event has been phenomenally successful in meeting both objectives and has raised a ton of money for good causes into the bargain.

I am probably a bit biased but it is cheaper that the “Womens 10”, is over a better route with better on-course entertainment and one of the best-value goody bags in the country. So if there are any ladies out there looking to set themselves a new challenge then we are ready and waiting (but there will be blokes running to!)
