FORMER Doctor Who star David Tennant is set to speak at a march for gender equality in London next month.

The annual March4Women event is being held indoors for the first time, after organisers changed the format to feature speeches, music and a panel.

The Mary Queen of Scots actor will appear alongside BBC Radio 4’s Jane Garvey, anti-upskirting campaigner Gina Martin and the president of the UK Supreme Court, Baroness Hale.

Proceedings will be led by Dr Helen Pankhurst, great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, who were leaders of the Suffragette movement.

Pankhurst said: “This year I’m excited that we’ll be raising our voices and calling for change in Central Hall Westminster – a beautiful, very large hall used by the Suffragettes in 1914.

It will be the first time in March4Women’s seven-year history that the event has happened inside – and will also mark 100 years since the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act, which allowed women to enter the workplace.

The afternoon will feature testimony from female survivors of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse in the workplace. Beverley Knight, who played Emmeline Pankhurst in the Old Vic’s production of Sylvia, will also be performing music.

Garvey is set to host a panel featuring Martin, Muslim Women’s Network’s Shaista Gohir and Leyla Hussein, who campaigns against female genital mutilation.

Lady Hale said: “Even in an advanced liberal democracy such as ours, there are still battles to be fought, and we must still have the moral courage to fight them.”

The rally will take place on March 3 from 2.15pm to 4.15pm, with free tickets available to those who cannot afford to pay.
