AN INNOVATIVE service which utilises the latest technology will transform car parking at Edinburgh Airport.

The airport is investing £12 million in a new parking approach which will see a dedicated valet facility built, as well as an extra 5000 parking spaces by 2021.

The new valet service, which is set to launch this summer, has been designed to be as straightforward as possible.

Passengers will drive through a new entrance, where HD cameras will take a 360-degree snap of the car. They then park up and head to a reception, where digital tickets can be scanned, and keys dropped off.

This checks the car in, and on return passengers can scan a QR code to retrieve their key and car.

Alec Hodgson, head of digital and parking at Edinburgh Airport said the plan will “revolutionise” the building’s parking facilities.

“By using the latest technology and adapting to the digital age we are in, we are offering a self-service product which is more convenient for our passengers.”

Hodgson added the project was the first of its kind in Scotland.

He continued: “We know passengers want a smooth and effective start to their holidays or business trips and we’re striving to offer that, starting with the vehicle drop off.

“The positive passenger experience is crucial to our business and something that will always be at the heart of our approach.”
