2 It’s all happening this week. The one and only, utterly legendary Aziz Ibrahim is playing at McChuills. The former Stone Roses guy is known for his work as lead guitarist for acclaimed bands and artists including Simply Red, Ian Brown, Paul Weller, Steven Wilson, Asia and Rebel MC. He has played on some of the best albums of the 80s. Ibrahim is doing a set of his own material with a few well-known tunes thrown in. Tuesday at 8pm, free.
3 In Auld Reekie, a night focusing on all things law and human rights. The Justice for All, Law as a Force for Good conference is on at Playfair Library. Free tickets available through Eventbrite. The keynote speaker is the incredible Aamer Anwar and also Fiona McPhail, who is the principal solicitor with Shelter Scotland in a day packed full of interesting talks and panels – followed by a chance to grab a drink and network. 5 Getting an early start to the International Women’s Day celebrations, over in The Tannahill Centre in Paisley they are working with the award-winning feminist theatre company Jordan & Skinner to hold a party and parade to celebrate women and girls as part of International Women’s Day 2019. Jump along to workshops where you will get the opportunity to try out drumming, chanting, marching, dancing and performing prior to the big party and parade taking place on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Workshops take place every Saturday from February 16 from 11am-1pm.There will be free food, tea, coffee and juice. Everyone is welcome, so bring along the whole family.
6 In Aberdeen next Saturday, Amnesty International is holding its annual Scottish student conference. Aimed at students and young people, this year’s conference theme is The Power Of The Individual. Expect lots of training to become a more impactful activist. The spotlight will particularly shine on young people’s place in activism and how to employ an ethical mindset in everyday life. Whether you are interested in human rights, sustainability or more generally are a believer in making this world a better place, this is the place to discuss it. A free event at Aberdeen University’s Student’s Union, from 9am, February 16, to 3pm, February 17.
7 Canteen Street Food festival lands in Fife next Saturday, a family day party featuring DJs, circus workshops, food traders, arts and crafts area, windmill making, lego station and soft play with decent organic food stalls available.
