FORMER teen rapper Angie Thomas, whose best-selling novel was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, is to make an exclusive appearance in Scotland.

The US author is set to speak at an Edinburgh International Book Festival event next month alongside Nadine Aisha Jassat, whose work was featured in 2017’s Nasty Women anthology.

Thomas will present the follow-up book to The Hate U Give, the novel about state violence against African Americans, which was a number one bestseller on both sides of the Atlantic and was even adapted into a film starring Amandla Stenberg.

“We are so excited to welcome Angie to Edinburgh where we know that legions of her fans will be queueing up to hear her speak of her own experiences,” said programme director Janet Smyth.

In Conversation with Angie Thomas will take place on March 9 at the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre in George Square.
