The National:

SCOTTISH Labour have a bit of form with social media mishaps, but their latest truly is hilarious.

So many aspects of it are perfect symbolism for this branch office.

First up, here's the video:

"Labour's vision for Scotland, our vision for the UK," Richard Leonard explains, over a clip of a beautiful landscape.

Labour's vision for Scotland is, apparently, to become Wales – because, as Sarah Mackie pointed out on Twitter, they appear to be using Snowdonia in the clip.

Wales is the only UK nation where Labour are in power – and at this rate have any hope of being in power – so we can at least understand the wish fulfillment going on.

You might notice as well, at around 1:55, what look distinctly like London buses in the background.

It gets funnier, though. Always keen to reinforce perceptions of themselves as an irrelevant branch office to the main party, they've done so once again.

The video was made using clips from a UK Labour ad, recycled for north of the Border. They couldn't even be bothered to find a Scottish mountain.

A spokesperson for Scottish Labour said: "As Richard states in the film, this is our vision for Scotland and for the whole of the UK, because the urgent need to get rid of the Tories and elect a Labour government that will end austerity doesn't stop at the border with England."

There's not really an urgent need to get rid of the Tories from government in Scotland though, is there? As with Labour, they're aren't in power. And there's only one way Scotland can stop getting Tory governments we don't vote for. Hint: Labour oppose it.

The advert has some cracking lines, though. For example: "The hard work and sacrifices of the many have been given away to a few.

"While people struggled, they grew wealthier. And while they wanted for nothing many went without.

"But it doesn't have to be this way.

"We have the talent, we have the means, we have the imagination to be so much more."

Except, of course, we don't have the talent, means or imagination to be an independent country, according to Scottish Labour.

"Scottish Labour believes in the people of our country. In their spirit and in the warm and kindness they have for their families and their communities."

Not enough to back Scotland freeing itself of the UK Government-imposed austerity and hostile environment, of course.

All that belief in the people of Scotland, all that condemnation for Tory policies ... but sorry, Scotland, you're not good enough to make it without England.

Twitter users had a good laugh at Scottish Labour's expense, at least.

They really don't help themselves. do they?
