ASPIRING theatre makers have an opportunity to become part of a new company with a course being held at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.

Interested 18 to 25-year-olds are invited to develop their skills, share practice, gain industry experience and “take control of the artistic process” during the four-week workshop programme, which will include specialised sessions from leading industry experts.

The four-week course will be followed by a workshop audition on February 21 to select the young artists who will go on to create the first project by the Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) company’s new Young Company.

The APA say they are looking for “reflective and adventurous emerging artists with an interest in working as an ensemble to create interesting, vibrant high- quality performances, taking responsibility for all aspects of the production process”.

While experience is preferred, Laura Callahan, the APA’s drama development co-ordinator, says other qualities are potentially more important.

“While performance skills are essential, we would be particularly interested in those wishing to develop further skills, for example in directing, writing, technical or design,” Callahan says.

“Experience is preferred, however, commitment, a willingness to learn and experiment and an ability to work as part of an ensemble is what we are really looking for.”

Jan 24 - Feb 14. Tickets cost £10 per workshop or £35 for all four. There is no charge to attend the workshop audition on Feb 21.
