FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said the case for Scottish independence is "gaining ground every day" as a result of the Brexit "fiasco".

In an interview with STV, Sturgeon said the way Scotland has been treated throughout the Brexit process has 'immeasurably strengthened' the argument for independence.

The First Minister added she would set out her views on the timeline of a second independence referendum once the current phase of the Brexit process is over, which, she added, she hoped would be "very soon".

Her comments follow an appearance on BBC Good Morning Scotland today, during which she said she would provide more information on indyref2 "fairly" soon.

The move comes as MPs and MSPs returned to their respective parliaments today following the Christmas breaks.

Sturgeon's comments echo those of Ian Blackford, who made his first House of Commons speech since returning from the holiday today. In his address, the SNP's Westminster leader said the need for independence was now "stark".
