TORY Brexiteers are having quite a time of it, as more and more of their pre-referendum claims are exposed as nonsense.
MEP Daniel Hannan is the latest politician to face that fate.
It came after a Home Office video told European citizens living in the UK that they would have to apply and pay to continue living here.

It said adults would face a charge of £65, with a fee of £32.50 for children.
Social media made its feelings known, particularly so in Scotland, and that's when an old Dan Hannan tweet resurfaced.
Just three months before the Brexit vote, he tweeted: "It's irresponsible to scare EU nationals in the UK by hinting that their status might change after Brexit. No one's suggesting such a thing."

That's turned out about as accurate the Brexit bus pledge of £350 million for the NHS.
Chai Patel, from the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, said the government had "betrayed its promise": "They are forcing EU nationals to pay to remain in the UK with fewer rights than they had before.

"And the crass nature of their advertising campaign shows they have not understood what a terrible blow it is for our European friends and neighbours to be told they don’t belong with us, unless they fill out a form and pay a fee by a certain date. We must do better than this."
This latest round of responses to Hannan's tweet hit the mark, too.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
