NICOLA Sturgeon opened up First Minister's Questions with a tribute to everyone affected by the Lockerbie bombing and its aftermath.

Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary since the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 killed all 243 passengers and 16 crew. 

"I'm sure that everyone in this chamber will reflect on the anniversary in some way," she said.

"In doing so we will reflect on how an almost unimaginable tragedy brought out incredible reserves of solidarity, compassion and love."

Sturgeon also pointed to the "enduring friendships" that have been created as a result, giving the example of the scholarships that Syracuse University in London – which lost 35 of its students in the bombing – now offering scholarships to students from Lockerbie Academy.

Other party leaders echoed the First Ministers sentiments.
