The National:

SANTA hats off to the First Minister. She's just gifted Theresa May the perfect Christmas present.

Indeed, this is the season of goodwill and giving – unless we're talking about the Tories and Universal Credit, of course.

That's been far from the only negative headline to hit Theresa May's party this week. Sir Nicholas Soames made our front page after telling SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford to "go back to Skye".

It was a classic example of the contempt for Scotland held by Tory MPs, with their attempts to conceal that attitude failing more and more regularly.

There was a silver lining, though. It clearly inspired Nicola Sturgeon, who is visiting No 10 today for talks on Brexit.

The First Minister tweeted: "We disagree on lots but in the spirit of the season, I took the PM a Christmas present today - a bottle of @IsleSkyeDistil gin from @IanBlackfordMP’s beautiful constituency. Maybe she should give @NSoames a taste!"

Truly in the Christmas spirit, and a potent reminder for May as to what her MPs think of Scotland.

Soames, the Tory MP for Mid Sussex, made the comments as Blackford rose to speak in an emergency debate on the EU withdrawal agreement.

Blackford hit back: “Mr Speaker, there’s the message to the people of Scotland from the Conservative benches, and the people of Scotland will reflect on the kind of ignorance and arrogance which is shown by honourable, so-called honourable members.”

We look forward to finding out what May's gift to Sturgeon was...
