AS we watch, from afar, the ongoings of the Conservative Party, I am struck by the apparatus in place. It would appear that the 1922 Committee is an important piece of the British Constitution, which does not exist. Why is the House of Commons a host for a part of the Conservative Party, including, it would seem, dedicated rooms?
As we face harder and harder Brexits, and even more confusion, it looks as if this is now the time for the UK’s “get out of jail” card. I refer of course to the ruling by the European Court of Justice that the UK can unilaterally cancel Brexit.
This was lodged by the Magnificent Six, all Scottish politicians, who persevered with their assertion. Mrs May should be delighted that she could avoid years of chaos and poverty for most of the population. This would knock Margaret Thatcher into the shade.
This action would be invaluable for all countries in the UK; to add some icing to the cake it should also mean that the powers from the EU hijacked by the UK, and not devolved to Scotland as promised, will revert to the current position. What’s not to like?

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
