MSPs will receive a pay increase of 2.3% from April, with salaries rising by just over £1400 from £62,149 to £63,579.
Speaking at a Holyrood committee, members of the Scottish Parliament’s Corporate Body (SPCB) said the rise, which MSPs do not vote on, is linked to public-sector pay.
The figure is determined by using the annual survey of earnings and working hours published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The First Minister’s salary entitlement will rise to £155,680. However, since 2009, all Scottish Government ministers, including Nicola Sturgeon, have chosen not to accept their full entitlement – a voluntary pay freeze which means their take-home salary remains at 2008/09 levels.
That means Sturgeon earns £135,605 and Cabinet secretaries £96,999 in total, although the latter’s entitlement will increase to £111,359 from April.
