AN SNP MP has called on the UK Government to take a full review into the sale of fireworks ahead of a debate in the House of Commons.

Patricia Gibson, SNP Consumer Affairs spokesperson, is calling for the review in response to concerns raised by constituents about the buying and selling of fireworks.

The MP for North Ayrshire and Arran wants the UK Government to review the law to ensure it is fit for purpose and to see what additional safeguards could be introduced.

She said: “Fireworks can be a great way for people to mark celebrations but this must not be at the expense of the well being and safety of families and communities.

“The sale of fireworks is reserved to Westminster, and it is up to the UK Government to ensure the law has suitable protections so that fireworks can be bought and sold safely and responsibly.”
